5 Refreshing Summer Cocktail Recipes

Tired of the staid old Cosmopolitan and Mojito? Time to stir up something new, don't you think? This summer unwind with refreshing cocktails created by some of the best bartenders in India at the 'Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year 2011' competition.


Sciroco
The cocktail sensation of the summer! A lovechild of everyone's favourite cocktail, the Cosmopolitan and the Mojito with Ciroc grape vodka, cranberry juice, fresh lime and a handful of mint.
Ingredients
60ml Ciroc
10ml crème de peche
Cranberry Juice
10ml freshly squeezed lime juice
5ml sugar syrup   
3 sprigs fresh mint   

Method
1) Put Ciroc, lime juice, sugar syrup into the bottom of the glass and gently press the mint to extract the flavours from the leaves. 
2) Next, fill the glass with ice and stir for 10 seconds to combine the ingredients together. 
3) Add more ice and top with cranberry juice, stir again and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint


Glassware: Highball Garnish: Mint sprig


Johnnie Golden Sling
Summer in a glass with Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve basking in the sun with golden peach liqueur, a liberal application of apple juice and a touch of mint.   

Ingredients
1 1/2 shot JW GLR   
1/2 shot Crème de Peche   
Apple juice   
Mint sprigs

Method
Pour all ingredients into a chilled sling glass, top with crushed ice and stir.   

Glassware: Sling Garnish: Mint sprig

Alcohol per serving
: 16.6g


Red Dragon
A refreshing summer cocktail with our favourite summer fruit flavour - watermelon!
Ingredients
50ml Talisker 10       
1 barspoon triple sec   
Fresh cherries   
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
40ml fresh watermelon juice   
    
Method
Shake ingredients and strain into ice filled glass.

Glassware: Sling Garnish: Watermelon slice

Alcohol per Serving: 16.6g


Old Square CocktailThe Vieux Carré is a classic cocktail with rye whiskey and cognac. The Singleton of Glen Ord provides a fine alternative with it's dry and spicy notes with underlying smokiness, combined in the Old Square Cocktail with sweet vermouth, Benedictine and a duo of bitters.   
Ingredients
40ml The Singleton of Glen Ord
20ml Sweet Vermouth   
7.5ml Benedictine   
1 dash Angostura Orange Bitters   
1 dash Peychaud's Bitters   

Method
Stir all ingredients with cracked ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
   

Glassware: Cocktail glass Garnish: Orange zest

Alcohol per Serving: 16.6g
Gold Walker Fizz
There is no better way to drink whisky in the summer than with this Scottish foreunner to the Mojito. Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve is romanced with freshly squeezed lemon juice, honey and sparkling water.   
Ingredients
60ml Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve   
30ml freshly squeezed lemon juice   
20ml honey water 2:1   
60ml sparkling water (Perrier)   

Method
Shake Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, lemon juice and honey water with cracked ice. Strain into a chilled highball glass, fill with ice and top with sparkling water.  
 

Glassware: Highball

Garnish: Lemon wedge

Alcohol per Serving: 19g
