NEW SAMSUNG GALAXY NOT 3 LITE

Though Samsung unveiled its new line of professional-grade tablets at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, it did not showcase any smartphones. However, the launch of the rumoured Galaxy Note 3 Lite seems imminent, with several photos and specifications of the model leaking online.

Technology website SamMobile has spilled the beans on the features of the upcoming model, touted as the smaller version of the Galaxy Note 3 phablet. The images show that the handset will bear the same look as Samsung's current top-end phablet and will have similar faux-leather back panel. However, the design of the camera module is a little different.

The report says that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite will have a 5.5-inch HD (720p) SuperAMOLED display, much like the Galaxy Note 2. It is said to run on a six-core Exynos 5260 chipset with Heterogenous Multiprocessing Technology (HMP), allowing all six cores to operate simultaneously. The model will be launched in two variants - one that operates only on 3G networks and one that works on 3G as well as 4G networks.

Other key features of the model include 2GB RAM, 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front camera, LED flash, 16GB internal storage, microSD support and 3,100mAh battery. The phone will run on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) upon launch, though the final software build may differ.

Galaxy Note 3 Lite will also come with the S Pen stylus and have all the related stylus features, such as Screen Write, Scrapbook, Pen Window etc. Connectivity options of the phone Lite include Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB, NFC, Wi-Fi and infrared.

In Antutu benchmark test, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite scores higher than Galaxy S4, but lower than the Note 3.

It is expected that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 3 Lite at the Mobile World Congress in February.

10 things to know about iPad 2

Over a month after it launched iPad 2 in the US, Apple's next-generation tablet, iPad 2, officially arrives in India. Apple tends to roll out iPad and iPhone across the world gradually. The company announced that apart from India, iPad 2 will be available in 11 additional countries.

Earlier, the company received a lot of flak when it launched original iPad in India nearly nine months after its US launch. iPad 2 is a revamped version of original iPad that launched in India in January end. The new tablet features a dual-core processor called A5 and is slimmer and lighter than the earlier version. Apple's original iPad defined the tablet computer market and was swiftly followed by offerings from the tech industry's main players, from Samsung and Dell to BlackBerry maker RIM and Toshiba.

Here are 10 things to know about the new iPad.

The iPhone 4

The iPhone 4
Wi-Fi tethering on the iPhone was previously only available for jailbroken devices. The MyWi application (available for $19.99 from the Cydia installer on jailbroken devices) can connect to a cellular network on the iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4 and iPad to create a personal Wi-Fi hotspot.

The app also enables USB and Bluetooth tethering on the same devices. More information on MyWi can be found on the developers website, intelliborn.com.

No such app is available for non-jailbroken devices. However, with the latest iOS 4.3 software update (available to download from March 10, 2011 onwards), the iPhone 4 also gets the personal Wi-Fi hotspot option officially. Using the new feature, three devices can connect to the iPhone 4 using Wi-Fi, and another two using USB and Bluetooth.

At this point, it’s not clear as to why Apple is not offering the feature on older devices like the iPhone 3G/3GS or for that matter on the 3G version of the iPad.
